Players Soar, Rocket League Sets New Record
Talking about the biggest digital game marketplace today, of course it’s still in the hands of Gabe Newell. No matter how the Epic Games Store distributes free games, Steam is still way ahead of them. Moreover, recently the number of active players continues to grow.
Well, the latest news comes from Psyonix’s game, Rocket League. The car ball game experienced a surge in players and set a new record. So how many active players are there now?
Nearly 500K Active Players
Announced by the vice chairman of Psyionix, Corey Davis, the game made by his studio has almost penetrated the 500 thousand active players from all platforms in this 14th season.
Davis provided this figure in response to eSports consultant Rod Breslau posting a concurrent player tracking image on Steam showing Rocket League hitting well above average numbers for the past year. Breslau said this was the all-time high player count for the game, as was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive which reached one million concurrent users.
Effects of Coronavirus?

If asked one of the causes that makes the players of this game increase, we can say it is the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic. As we know, many countries have implemented lockdowns or at least self-isolation. Most likely, the old or new players are starting to play this game again to fill their spare time.
Rocket League itself was released from PC, PS4, Xbox One to Nintendo Switch platforms. It’s not wrong because more and more players are active at the same time.
Prior to this, we also received news that the game that wants to be labeled a dead game, DOTA 2 is back with many active players. Even so, many events and tournaments have been postponed. Several majors have been postponed and this will likely have an impact on TI10. But we still hope that this epidemic will end soon and the event can be held at the right time.
