Epic Games To Launch New Digital Store, Aims To Compete With Steam, GOG, And Microsoft Windows Store
Epic Games has announced that they will be launching a new digital store Epic Games Store, which aims to rival Valve’s Steam, GOG and the Microsoft Windows Store. Contrary to other stores, Epic Games promises to give developers 88% of revenue while retaining 12% for overhead. For comparison purposes, Steam remains at 30% so we see a very big difference here.
Epic CEO Tim Sweeney said:
“As developers ourselves, we’ve always wanted a platform with a big economy that connects us directly with our players. Thanks to the success of Fortnite, we now have this and are ready to share it with other developers. ”

What’s also interesting here is that if the developer’s game uses Unreal Engine 4, all copies sold on the Epic digital store will not provide a separate percentage for Epic. Of course, this will benefit all the developers currently using Unreal Engine 4 to build their games and Epic shared the following images to give us an idea of what to wear.

The Epic Game Store will launch later this month and the store will be accessible both through the Epic Games launcher and on the web. Epic confirms that its own games will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC and Mac, and will sometimes fund developers to release games exclusively through the store!
