Fallout 76 Explains How PvP Will Work
As predicted, the QuakeCon weekend has come with interesting details about the intricacies of the system at play in Fallout 76. Apart from explaining how the game’s Perk system works, Fallout 76 also answers some of the biggest questions about the game’s PvP system.
Bethesda Games Studio director Todd Howard started off by explaining that Fallout 76 was built around PvE and PvP. The design team’s main goal was to find a way to incorporate the element of danger that comes with PvP, beyond just bringing in the usual sadness. The approach to achieving that balance is very interesting and unlike the usual solutions.
This game will allow players to attack other players when they find them, but if the defending player doesn’t fight back, it does very little damage. If the defending party ends up fighting back, then the damage is raised to a normal level.
If the player never fights, it is still possible for the attacker to kill the other party, even with nerf damage. If that ended up happening, the attack would be much more complicated in the game. As a form of punishment, the attacker is marked as a wanted killer. As you might expect, that’s not a good thing.
In addition, the player is also then marked on the map for all other players to find it. If that doesn’t sound like punishment enough, Wanted Killer can’t see any player indicators on the minimap either. If the killer is caught, the party who brought them to justice is paid a Caps prize from the killer’s wallet.
This system sounds very creative and unlike most we’ve seen in other multiplayer survival games. It will be interesting to see how it turns out and how often PvP rivalries are born or if those fights are avoided entirely.
Fallout 76 will be released on November 14, 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox
