Here's What You Need to Know About God of War's New Game Plus Mode
God of War became the best-selling game on the PlayStation 4, shortly after launch. Those who have completed the main story of the game will have a reason to repeat it again, because the latest update has added a New Game Plus mode for players.
The highly anticipated addition of New Game Plus was announced earlier this month, and launched exactly four months after the game’s official release last April. In addition to the option to start from the beginning of the story, God of War’s new campaign mode allows players to retain all of the gear, amulets, secrets, weapons, and skills they collected in their original game.
This causes many changes in combat, with enemies now having changed attack patterns when fighting Kratos, and new in-game challenges to tackle. Along with the new challenges of God of War’s New Game Plus mode, enemies now have the ability to turn “elite”, making them more dangerous even on the easier difficulty setting.
For those who wish to add some new shield skins for Kratos, they can now do so by completing New Game Plus on the toughest difficulty, “Give Me God of War+”. Other opportunities for players to upgrade and unlock new equipment include new armor sets for Kratos and Atreus, new options that can be customized depending on a new resource called Skap Slag, and the ability to turn old amulets and equipment into new charms.
Also on the list of new features is the ability to skip cutscenes, which is an important option considering God of War was originally designed to be playable in one cinematic shot. The option to skip the cinematic is only available to those who have completed the story at least once, regardless of whether they played on New Game Plus or not.
God of War’s critically important and commercial success is something not to be taken lightly, and it’s great that Santa Monica Studio provides a sizable player base even in the game. And with God of War already the highest-rated game ever on PS4, it will be interesting to see how the developer plans to top the action-adventure game with its sequel.
God of War is currently available for PlayStation 4.
