Ubisoft Wants To Make More Game Modes For Rainbow Six Siege
Since its launch, Rainbow Six Siege has evolved in a way that no other game has ever done before. With a consistently growing player base and thriving eSports circuit, Ubisoft’s multiplayer Tom Clancy games have cemented their place in history as a successful 5-on-5 tactical shooter.
That’s not to say the studio isn’t experimenting with other Rainbow Six Siege game modes, though: Ubisoft released a timed PVE mode called Outbreak earlier this year, allowing co-op squads of 3 to battle otherworldly monsters in a way that’s somehow mixed in the universe. Siege.
Now Outbreak has come and gone, leaving behind exclusive items and most fond memories for those who played it, and Siege has returned to being a near-exclusive 5-on-5 multiplayer game. It now has only one storyline-based online mission, a terrorist mode, and multiple training experiences that provide a break from the usual online grind. With the only significant PVE mode growing further in the rearview mirror, we asked Ubisoft if the studio took what it learned from Outbreak and cooked up something new for fans.
Ubisoft is currently in its third year of post-launch content, with Operation Grim Sky set to arrive in the next few weeks. After that, there is only one more season of content left for 2022 which will introduce the two Moroccan operators a new map. This means that any potential PVE or non-operator/map-specific content introduced by Ubisoft will take place in Year Four or later.
The Rainbow Six Siege Escape event will bring special loot boxes into the game.
Not Only New Modes, Ubisoft Is Also Reworking on a Larger Map of Rainbow Six Siege
Outbreak is the first of Year 3 content to arrive in March this year after being revealed in November last year, meaning similar announcements and release patterns could be in the cards for this fall.
Ubisoft isn’t just looking for completely new game modes, the studio has now confirmed that reworking of bigger maps like Hereford Base will take place in the upcoming season. As more operators and abilities are introduced to the game, it makes sense that the competitive map will require significant updates to stay balanced.
It’s unknown whether existing maps will get this major overhaul, so fans may have to wait until November or December this year to find out what Ubisoft has planned for its fourth year of content.
In any case, the possibility of PVE gameplay (or at least a new game mode) and a complete map rework is an interesting thing to think about.
Rainbow Six Siege is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
