Due to Team Size, Four Esports Branches are Canceled Departing for the SEA Games Vietnam 2022
Recently, the news of cutting sports for the SEA Games Vietnam 2022 has been widely discussed, especially in esports. This growing industry is expected to bring home a gold medal in this Southeast Asian sporting event. Unfortunately, there was a decision that out of the planned 10 branches, four of them had to fail to defend Indonesia.
From result review carried out by Prof. Dr. Asmawi as team leader review PPON Kemenpora. Finally it was decided that Arena of Valor, League of Legends PC, League of Legends: Wild Rift (men), League of Legends: Wild Rift (Women) not continue to advance to the SEA Games Hanoi 2022.
The cause is team size and quota limitations. Finally, it is with a heavy heart that the four branches mentioned earlier canceled participating in defending Indonesia at the SEA Games Vietnam 2022.

It turns out that streamlining sports numbers doesn’t just happen in esports. From press release distributed by PBESI, it is said that of the total, the total downsizing is up to 43.4%. A total of 841 athletes from 52 branches were limited to 476 athletes from 31 sports.
The numbers are indeed quite fantastic, but we must accept this harsh reality. Team decision review PPON was taken after reviewing various aspects, namely there is no track record of achievement, no chance of medals, and has organizational problems.

Although it’s a bit unfortunate, we can still hope for the Indonesian athletes who will go to the 2022 Vietnam SEA Games. Hopefully they will be able to make Indonesia proud in the international arena!
