Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay Trailer Reveals Holiday 2022 Release Date

Hogwarts Legacy, an open world Harry Potter adventure set in the famous wizarding school, will launch during the 2022 holiday season on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

valanche Software and Sony Interactive Entertainment previewed 15 minutes of gameplay on Thursday afternoon, during a State of Play livestream devoted to Hogwarts Legacy.

Players get a glimpse into the creation of the Hogwarts Legacy character, some of the activities they’ll encounter inside and outside of school, and a brief introduction to the story that holds it all together.

Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s, about 100 years before Harry Potter enlisted. In Hogwarts Legacy, player characters are new wizards, unless they start out as fifth-year students.

So the introduction will bring players up to speed on the game’s systems and controls, as well as bring the characters into the current story.

It involved some sort of intrigue involving goblins and dark magicians. The tutorial stage seems to involve investigating the goblin rebellion with a new NPC, Professor Figg. Then in the 15 minute trailer, “darker path” is hinted if the player chooses to go after him.

Hogwarts Legacy also seems to touch all the characteristics of action RPGs, including crafting (both potions and magical items), skill and perk trees, and parties and followers.

Hogwarts’ secret room can be found within the academy, and it serves as a customizable hub area between story quests.

While this game fits perfectly into the Harry Potter storyline, creator JK Rowling was not involved in the creation of Hogwarts Legacy.

Immediately after announcing the Hogwarts Legacy in September 2022, Warner Bros. The last Games distanced the project from her because of Rowling’s public comments, and transphobia, about gender identity.

So acceptance of the Hogwarts Legacy from the general public will be closely monitored. Many LGBTQ supporters have left their fandom for the larger realm of Harry Potter, and are considering supporting the game to directly support Rowling and her views.

Others have also noted that the game’s former lead designer maintains a YouTube channel where he endorses far-right positions and raises similar cultural grievances. The game developer left Avalanche Software under the cloud in March 2022.
