Don’t compare it to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. Of all the films that have been shown, only Eternals who did not get the Fresh predicate on Tomatometer with a score of 47%. On average, the score for the entire MCU is 84%.

Of all the Marvel films ever produced in the modern era, Morbius starring Jared Leto was the second worst. Film Fantastic 4 which was released in 2022 is still the “champion” with a score of 9%.

Despite having low scores, the two Venom films starring Tom Hardy still managed to get box office which is quite high. Venom grossed $856 million (Rp 12 trillion) in 2022, while the sequel earned $502 million (Rp 7.2 trillion).

So, will the same be true for movies? Morbius? Maybe not, considering that this film “only” grossed 39.1 million dollars or the equivalent of Rp. 561.8 billion. Even though I managed to move The Lost Citythis figure does not cover production costs which reached $ 75 million.

By the standards of Marvel films, that number is very small. In comparison, inaugural week Venom managed to earn 80 million dollars (Rp1.14 trillion). Moreover, the audience score Morbius in Rotten Tomatoes (70%) worse than Venom (81%).

Burden Morbius will be even more difficult because this film will face tough opponents in the following weeks, such as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

Seeing that his film was heavily criticized, director Daniel Espinosa gave his response. In his interview with Insiders recently, he claims to be proud of the work he does and doesn’t care what people think of any of his films.

Look, I have a lot of self-hatred, so I have a lot of criticism of my own work. I always try to focus on getting better. But I’m also proud of what I do. There are parts in all of my films that I’m very proud of,” said Espinosa

Espinosa’s response to his work indicated that he would improve his work in the future. Moreover, there are rumors that say that Morbius will have a sequel. If Espinosa is re-appointed as director, we can hope that the sequel will be much better than the current one.
