As a result of Top Gun 2, Paramount is Sued for Alleged Copyright Infringement
Top Gun 2 studio Paramount Pictures has been sued for alleged copyright infringement. Hearing this demand, Paramount also installed a body and prepared materials to fight the accusations.
Top Gun: Maverick is still trending on social media, since its release on May 24, 2022. Several records in the world of cinema were successfully broken by this film.
Not only that, the sequel to Top Gun (1986) was also able to top the box office standings with an income of IDR 7.9 trillion, a very fantastic number, right?
But behind it all, there is bad news that just came from the film directed by Joseph Kosinski. Because, Top Gun 2 is accused of copyright infringement. Well, how come? Here’s the explanation.
Studio Top Gun 2, Paramount Sued On Allegations Of Copyright Infringement
This claim came from the wife and child of the late author of the article adapted by the film Top Gun, namely Ehud Yonay. At that time, the article was completed in 1983 and the first Top Gun film was released three years later, namely 1986.

On Monday (6/6), the heirs Shosh Yonay and Yuval Yonay filed a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles federal court. In their report, they claim that Paramount has not reclaimed the rights to the original Top Gun story.
“While the 2022 sequel is clearly derived from the article, Paramount knowingly failed to obtain a new license to the film and additional rights to the copyright-protected article, after the American copyright was returned to Yonay on January 24, 2020,” the prosecution said.
Shosh and Yuval also demanded that the screening and distribution of the film Top Gun: Maverick be stopped and demanded compensation from Paramount. It is known, Top Gun: Maverick has managed to get a ‘cash’ of Rp. 4.3 trillion in domestic theaters.
From Paramount’s side, they consider this accusation to be unfounded and are ready to fight the accusation to completion.
“These claims are baseless, and we will defend ourselves vigorously,” the party said Paramount.
