Show LGBT Scene, Lightyear Film Screening Blocked From UAE

The screening of the film Lightyear had to be blocked from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after there were LGBT scenes in the film. Of course, this news also made his fans disappointed.

Lightyear is an animated film in collaboration between Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures which is scheduled to be released this month. Several preparations have also been made by both parties to welcome the release of this film, which is only 1 day away.

However, ahead of its release, Lightyear got a new problem that was quite strange. The problem is related to the blocking carried out by the United Arab Emirates, because there are scenes that violate the regulations that have been set by the country.

Lightyear Banned From UAE For Showing LGBT Scene

On Monday (13/6), via account Twitter Officially, the UAE Ministry of Youth and Culture’s Media Regulation Office confirmed that the screening of the film Lightyear has been banned from the country. As a result, the tweet immediately went viral in cyberspace.

“The Office of Media Regulation announces that the animated Lightyear film, which is scheduled for release on June 16, is not licensed for public screening in all cinemas in the UAE, as it violates the country’s media content standards,” the party wrote.

Actually, the UAE had time to make edits to scenes that were deemed unfit to be broadcast in that country. However, animation studio Pixar objected to the edit. Finally, the UAE took firm steps to ban the screening of this Angus MacLane film.

It is known, the scene that made the UAE banned the film was when Alisha’s character kissed a fellow female character. Alisha also builds a family with the character, which seems to illustrate that Lightyear is very pro with the LGBTQ + community.
