How to Delete Thumbnails Files on Android
Augustbe you are confused right now because your internal memory is full even though on your Android there are very few installed applications, as well as files stored on your Android such as music, photos and other files.
The question is why can our internal memory be full? Even though very few applications are installed. It may be caused by the .thumbnails file piling up.
What are thumbnail files? The thumbnails file is a cache or trash file from the gallery application on our Android mobile, usually these thumbnails are located in the phone memory / SD Card -> DCIM -> .thumbnails and usually this thumbnails file contains several relatively small resolution images.
But why can this file swell to hundreds of MB or even gigabytes? This is caused by your daily activities such as photographing or taking photos, opening galleries, looking at photos and so on.
The function of the thumbnails file is actually to speed up performance when we open the gallery so that when we open the gallery it doesn’t take much time without having to wait for a relatively long loading. But in many cases, many people complain that their internal memory is full because of this thumbnail file.
So, that’s why this time I will share tips for you so that the thumbnails file can be deleted and will not come back again, alias forever. Without further ado, let’s get started, here’s the tutorial.
How to Permanently Remove Thumbnails on Android Without Root
The First Way: Without Application
1. The first step is to delete the .thumbnails folder located on the SD Card -> DCIM -> Thumbnails. If you don’t find it, please first activate the enable feature to show hidden files.
2. If the thumbnails file has been deleted, then look for any arbitrary file which we will rename to a fake .thumbnails file. For example, I use the facedata file located on SD Card -> .face -> facedata.
3. Then, please press the facedata file until various options appear, then select Change Name.
4. Then, please rename the file earlier with .thumbnails then click ok.
5. Next, press the file until various options appear, then click the Move button.
6. Then move the file to the SD Card folder -> DCIM -> …… then click Move Here.
7. Done.
The Second Way: With the Application
You can do this second method by using a file manager application that can create files without the extension. You can use Root Explorer. You can see the steps as follows.
- The first step, please download and install the application first RootExplorer. You can get it on the Google Play Store or you can search on Google.
- Furthermore, the same as the previous method, first delete the .thumbnails folder in Internal Memory > DCIM > .thumbnailsif you don’t find it, please activate it first show hidden files.
- Then please open the Root Explorer application. Still in the DCIM folder, on the Root Explorer menu options/options, click Options Files to create a new file in that folder, after that please name it “.thumbnails” (without the quotes). Next, please click OK to save.
After this method is done, the thumbnails folder will no longer appear and will not burden your internal memory anymore. Actually there are many ways that can be used to get rid of this thumbnails file, I share this method because you don’t need to install third-party applications.
If this method doesn’t work or has no effect, maybe you were wrong in changing the file name, make sure you replaced the file name with a name .thumbnails dot in front. If it doesn’t work, please try again from the beginning.
