PewDiePie: YouTube's Newest FTC Rules "Make no sense"

YouTube star Felix’PewDiePie‘ Kjellbergd has given his take on YouTube’s controversial new COPPA regulations in his latest video.

PewDiePie is without a doubt the most popular YouTuber in the world. He managed to collect 102 million subscribers and became the number 1 YouTuber in the world.

Although he is best known for his entertaining video games, Youtuber The Swedish origin is now also presenting a variety of content including controversial issues and issues.

YouTube’s New Child Protection Regulations Are Confusing

Pewdiepie Most Successful Youtuber

One of the main issues that YouTubers are currently facing is the new COPPA (Child Privacy Protection Act) regulations. According to content creators, the new regulations are very difficult to understand.

This new regulation stems from the fines the platform received in September 2022 for collecting personal data of children. This will affect every content creator, they will be forced to inform the platform if their content is made for children.

PewDiePie reviewed these rules and found that content creators don’t just need to tell YouTube about their content. But the platform will also use machine learning to decide if the video is for kids.

Creators on YouTube Can Be Sued For Violating COPPA Rules

This came as a surprise to Felix, he sarcastically stated “machine learning has worked really well before on Youtube”, digging into automated copyright claims and other controversial automated systems.

Felix then came across something even stranger, a video stating that according to the new rules, content creators can be prosecuted for violating COPPA rules. “What? Why? It makes no sense, control your children,” he said,

Obviously disappointed by the fact that he could be penalized for children viewing his content. The content is automatically rated as inappropriate for children.

Not only are the penalties very severe, but YouTube has pushed for more family-friendly content. Even PewDiePie himself states that much of his content is appropriate for children to see. In addition, he has also followed the platform guidelines, and now he is worried about getting punished.

Many other content creators are talking about this issue, with many sharing the same views as Felix. YouTube hasn’t released a response yet, but it looks like there’s a lot more controversy coming to the platform.
