Fortnite Update 5.1 Fixed Ghost Peeking, But Created New Problems
Fortnite might be celebrating its first anniversary right now with some awesome in-game cakes and added challenges. but that excitement is marred by ghost peeking which has become a troublesome exploit affecting the loot-loving player base. The folks at Epic Games have been trying to fix this for months now, and have had mixed results.
In case you didn’t notice, ghost peeking renders players invisible and exposes themselves to enemies. This is especially problematic in games where you can get yourself lost almost any time. It comes into effect when a player bends over.
If you’ve ever been shot by a sniper in the opposite tower without seeing his head peek, this very useful image (posted on Reddit by Epic’s Nick Donaldson) shows you why. “The yellow line is the trail from the center of your camera. The green line should be the trail of the bullet,” he explained. As you can see, staking effectively removes the risk attached to your neck for cover.
Ghost Peeking Is A Serious Problem Affecting The Game
Ghost peeking has become such a widespread problem, you only have to search for the term on YouTube to uncover a myriad of video tutorials that teach players how to successfully do it. In the latest v5.1 update, however, Epic claims to have fixed it, and based on current evidence that appears to be the case. But don’t get too excited just yet, this solution comes with a caveat. Fixing Ghost peeking has an adverse side effect that affects your ability to direct your gaze downwards.
Reddit user Grass — Tastes_Bad first demonstrated this, showing how the premium Leader skin will cover half the screen and your reticle points when you tilt it down the road. Ghost peeking was an issue that needed to be fixed, but current solutions have introduced a more serious problem. It’s bad enough getting killed by the new P90 Compact SMG, but having to fight to keep enemy players in sight.
Epic has been quick to fix issues with Fortnite so far, and they’re aware of this one, so there’s hope this will be fixed soon. Fortnite Season 5 is now in Week 3, and there’s a whole new set of challenges to complete.
