Moonton sues Tencent to get a fine of half a billion!

After a series of accusations regarding plagiarism and violating trade secrets, finally Moonton sue back Tencent Games regarding the defamation of the game made by him, Mobile Legends.

This is because it is detrimental to Moonton for being accused of simultaneously spreading false information regarding plagiarism carried out by the MOBA Mobile game which is now very popular in the world.

Until the end, Tencent Games as the parent of Riot Games must bear a fine of 220 thousand Yuan or or equivalent to Rp. 471 million.

Tencent Had Sued Moonton

The lawsuit itself was originally filed by Tencent and Riot Games over their objections regarding several Mobile Legends designs that were allegedly blatantly plagiarizing content from League of Legends.

They also asked Moonton to stop his actions which were suspected of openly plagiarizing his exclusive content.

“Moonton’s strategy is blatant plagiarism. When Riot updates the game, Moonton will copy it. When Riot updated the game’s promotional materials, Moonton also copied them. And when Riot releases a new trailer, Moonton is still copying it,” explained Riot Games on the contents of the lawsuit some time ago.

According to court documents that have been translated, Tencent, through their attorneys in Indonesia, had also sent warning letters to Moonton’s partners in Indonesia.

The lawsuit also included esports platform RevivalTV in August 2023. The letter referred to Tencent’s 19.4 million yuan (£2.45 million) lawsuit against Moonton CEO Xu Zhenhua in China and claimed the CEO violated trade secrets to develop MLBB gaming software.

However, as court documents highlight, the dispute is a labor case involving Xu Zhenhua’s contract at Tencent including a non-compete clause during his tenure. The Moonton CEO himself was an employee at Tencent when he founded the company in 2014.

Moonton finally responded quickly to this lawsuit, with some time ago having filed a counterclaim for defamation committed by Tencent against Mobile Legends.

They consider this to be cruel slander, defamation and distribution of false information that will make Mobile Legends look bad on the public.

Moonton also considers this as Tencent’s attempt to destroy its competitors so that in the end Moonton won the lawsuit they filed and is entitled to compensation of 220 thousand Yuan or Rp. 471 million.
