How to Overcome Brightness Not Working Windows 7, 8 and 10
It’s easy to Overcome Brightness Not Working Windows 7, 8 and 10 |
Kumparantekno – Have you ever experienced the brightness on the PC / Laptop that you are using suddenly doesn’t work, can’t be dimmed, even the existing settings actually disappear?
If indeed you experience this, then you have come to the right article. Because below I will briefly explain how how to solve the problem of Brightness Not Working on Windows 7, 8 and 10.
Ok, please read to the end…
Cause brightness is not working
Before getting to the discussion on how to deal with brightness not working, it’s a good idea to know some of the causes that allow brightness to not work.
The first reason is…
1. The driver has not been installed correctly
It could be that the PC / Laptop that you are using has not installed the driver software. OR, it could also have been installed, but the existing drivers are actually not compatible/compatible with the Windows OS you are using.
For example, a driver that is specifically for Windows 7, most likely will not work on Windows 10. (the difference is quite far)
However, if Windows 7 drivers are installed on Windows 8 / 8.1 OS, there are several types of laptops that can still use driver versions that don’t have to be SPECIFIC.
2. The device manager settings are wrong
The second cause, there might be something wrong with the settings in the Devices Manager on the Windows OS that you are using.
What I mean by this wrong setting is that there are some hardware components that are accidentally in “disable” mode.
Meanwhile, the device manager component can be a Network Adapter, Display Adapter, and so on.
3. The laptop has a virus
The third possibility, there could be a number of viruses active on the Windows OS.
This active virus may have damaged the driver files related to the display system so that some of the driver components whose function is to process the UI file data become damaged / corrupted.
4. And others
Apart from the 3 things I mentioned above, so far there haven’t been a number of other things that could cause brightness to not work.
Overcoming brightness does not work
Next, I will continue with a brief discussion on how to deal with brightness not working on a PC / Laptop.
The method below is actually my own personal experience when experiencing something similar.
As additional information, you can do this step on Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10. (essentially the same)
Please read the SOLUTION below…
1. SOLUTION The driver is not installed
To find out which Windows OS driver has been installed or not is actually quite easy. Just look at the command when turning off the PC / Laptop device you are using.
If there are only 2 Shutdown and Restart options, then it can indicate that the VGA driver on the device has NOT been installed.
The second characteristic if the driver has not been installed is when you right click on the desktop display. Then there will be no additional menu to do with Control center from Intel / AMD / Nvidia.
A PC / laptop that has the VGA driver installed will usually display the properties / control panel on the GPU device installed on the device. (Intel, AMD, Nvidia)
Well now SOLUTION is…
Look for the CD / DVD that is available at the time of purchasing the PC / Laptop that is in the box. (generally a laptop should be present)
If what you are using is a PC / computer, the alternative is by downloading it directly on the official VGA driver provider website.
Adjust the type, Intel, AMD, or Nvidia.
Download, then install.
2. The device manager settings are wrong
Now, at point number 2, I have also experienced this when using Windows 8.
Long story short like this…
The Samsung laptop that I use for some reason often experiences brightness that can’t be dimmed at certain times.
This is even more WEIRD, because indeed I am 100% sure that the driver installed is properly installed.
I have explored tutorial after tutorial on other people’s blogs, but unfortunately none of them has the same core problem as the laptop I use.
Most of them (blogs outside) suggest solving brightness problems that don’t work by checking drivers, reinstalling drivers, and approaching other things.
After several days of receiving the brightness that couldn’t be adjusted, I finally “accidentally” found a core problem that made the brightness of the laptop that I use not working.
The main problem that occurred on my laptop at that time was quite simple and trivial, namely the result of the devices manager having the “disabled” status.
Now what makes me wonder, the disabled component is NOT on the Display Adapter. But on the Monitor, more precisely on the Generic PnP Monitor.
For more details, see the image below…
Generic PnP Monitor is disabled |
No wonder it can be missed, because part Generic PnP Monitor is a component that rarely occurs since my experience in computer repair at school.
(usually the problem is only on the VGA Adapter)
The SOLUTION is simple, just right-click on Generic PnP Monitor, then select Enabled.
3. SOLUTION if it doesn’t work due to a virus
Point number 3 is most likely a lot of people who already know.
Just do a full scan using the updated antivirus, then the virus will be immediately resolved by the antivirus.
My suggestion is better to use Avast, OR Windows Defender built into Windows 10 only. (don’t forget to update)
But if after scanning it still doesn’t solve the problem, then reinstalling the OS is probably the best choice.
4. There is no additional…
So far there are no other SOLUTIONS that I can add to overcome brightness not working. Next time, maybe I’ll add it if it must be added.
Conclusion…
So the conclusion is, problems that can cause brightness to not work are:
- Drivers are not compatible
- Devices are disabled
- And others
SOLUTION…
- Install/reinstall drivers
- Enabled in devices manager
- And others
